In this LETS MAKE A FIELD GUIDE butterfly and caterpillar packet, students use their observation skills to sketch caterpillars and butterflies.
Included in this packet are directions and paper for how to create the field guide in 4 levels. A worksheet for labeling the parts of a butterfly and the butterfly life cycle is included as well as 2 drawing activities for how caterpillars protect themselves and how butterflies use their wings.
Students use their scientific skills to create a project that shows how butterfly wings are made of scales. A fun activity to show the butterfly life cycle and a parts of the butterfly labeling activity are included. An original book with full color illustrations of the butterflies and their caterpillars can be used as an introduction to the unit.
I have chosen only 6 butterflies. There are many, many species of butterflies in the world. The 6 that I have chosen are the ones that are the most common in North America. They are SPRING AZURE, CLOUDED SULPHUR, PAINTED LADY, MONARCH, TIGER SWALLOWTAIL, and BUCKEYE.
This is a fun supplement to your present butterfly unit!
