I use this as an outline for students to define vocabulary words and use each word in a sentence. These words go with the Open Court Reading story, Butterfly House. Students read the sentences first, come up with a definition (or they can look them up in the back of the reading book), write their own sentence using the word, and then draw a picture to go with their sentence. I started doing this whole group but then as students got used to it, they began looking up the definitions themselves. Another good idea would be to develop definitions with students and then have them create their sentences for homework that way they can practice vocabulary at home and parents can be familiar with them as well.
These words can also be used when studying the butterfly life cycle.
