Do you need a fun, motivating way to get your students to practice and learn their high-frequency words?
This download includes a student booklet, an assessment booklet, and certificates for students when they have mastered each set of 25 high-frequency goals.
How does it work? Make a booklet for each student. A cover page is included. These booklets can be kept in student's book box and used during Daily Five. Students will start with the first 25 words. The first 25 words are broken down into 4 columns with each column just having one more word than the previous column.
Starting with the shortest column on the left side of the page, students are challenged to take one deep breathe and try to read all the words in that one breathe. The challenge is to have students read the words with automaticity without having to stare at the word. Once they have mastered and met the challenge of reading the words in one breath, they move to the second column and try to do the same thing. Students work and challenge themselves through all 4 columns.
Once the words are learned, students can be assessed using the assessment booklet. One way to use the assessment booklet would be to make two booklets and either laminate the pages or place in plastic sleeves. The student would use one assessment book to read the words and the teacher would use the other booklet to mark any words missed using a dry erase marker. Any words missed can be highlighted or circled in the student's "one breath" booklets.
Once a student has mastered all 25 words in the list they are learning, their are matching certificates to be filled out and sent home! The next list of words can be attached to the certificate for home practice and a simple way to communicate to parents their child's next goal.
Get ready for your room to be in a "buzz" with students being motivated and excited to master their High-Frequency words!
