The C-D-O (Compare, Diagnose, Operate) strategy for revising and editing has been around a long time. Its effectiveness is backed by research and has proven to be (in my opinion) the best strategy for middle-school writers. It is tactile and engages students in reviewing their writing for revision one sentence at a time.
