After I conference with each student, I determine their goal/focus (either comprehension, accuracy, fluency, or expand vocabulary). Then, I give them one of these task activities to complete during "read to self time." I explain the task to them and they glue it into their little CAFE workbook. They work on it during their "read to self" time and I check it the next time I read with them. Great tool to develop responsibility, independence, and goal setting for reading! There are two of the same task on each sheet of paper. Modify to suit your needs!
