This is my Literacy Cafe Bulletin Board as well as 30 strategies I use in my classroom. I hope that your students enjoy it as much as mine do!
My home is in Adrian Michigan, but I took a teaching position as a grade 3 teacher at an international school in New Delhi, India for the next two years. One of the students in my classroom lost both of her parents to tuberculosis at a very young age and has spent most of her life begging on the streets of Delhi with all of the street children.
Last year she was adopted by a loving Canadian family and this is her first year in school. She is ten years old and is just now learning how to read and write in English. Because of her age, she was placed in my grade 3 class so she could be among peers and catch up quickly.
I created my CAFE Bulletin Board not only to help this student learn reading strategies but also for all of my students to improve their literacy skills. I love the acronym of CAFE. Learning to read is like baking cookies. You need each ingredient and then you need to stir and bake to get cookies. It is not an easy process, but the results are wonderful. So I did a baking theme for my CAFE.
