This is a great game to play in a math rotation! Students play in partners. Each player rolls two dice, creating a fraction (with the larger number as the denominator). Each player records the fraction rolled, and partitions the rectangle to model its value. Players indicate the relationship between their fractions using < > or =
You can differentiate this game by using different kinds of dice! My students who are ready for a challenge use dice that go up to 12. My students who need support use other math manipulatives (like fraction rods) to visualize the relationship between the two fractions created.
Using this recording sheet to accompany game play is a great formative assessment piece!
