This document provides students the opportunity to meet or exceed expectations for narrative writing by seeing where they are on a progression towards mastery. I've used this checklist in so many ways:
1. Use it to assess a pre- and post-assessment using two different colors to see growth.
2. Students grade themselves then I grade them to see how we compare.
3. During the writing process, ongoing feedback is given in the form of "praise and polish points" to see where they are making progress and what they might consider doing next.
4. Students trade and give each other feedback as described in number 3.
