The purpose of this unit of study will be to expose students to a variety of addition and subtraction strategies to help students see how numbers can be composed and decomposed in a variety of ways. This will be a two week introduction unit, with activities and practice pages that can be used throughout the school year. This 2 week unit is going to introduce strategies for addition and subtraction that you can practice on throughout the year as well as establish a benchmark to measure growth.
Weekly timed tests, center games and practice ideas are included to use during the school year to continue working on fluency. The strategies covered are making 10, number lines, adding on from larger, counting up, doubles, doubles plus 1 and more. I have differentiated many pages in a the most subtle way I could find. I wanted to meet the needs of all learners, but not draw attention to something being different. You will recognize the differentiated pages by this symbol * beside the title or directions.
