Common Core State Standards indicate that students need to communicate their thinking with math models and equations. Even high stakes state testing is showing more models, diagrams, and graphic organizers in math. Prepare your students for the 21st century with reasoning, communicating their thinking effectively, constructing arguments and critiquing the arguments of others. This pdf file should be printed on card stock, trimmed around the borders, glued on construction paper and then bound into a flip book. Students in whole group, small group, and individual settings will use this book when presented with a word problem. First, they identify the characters, setting, problem, and action in the word problem story. Then, they act it out and identify which model best represents this action and thinking. This project has taken me almost 2 years to create! I hope it enhances your math program.
