Students practice creating graphs and analyzing data. Graph shark and seal numbers over time to determine the relationship between the two populations. Graph temperature and cricket chirps. Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) is then used to develop scientific reasoning skills.
This may be appropriate for all ages, though beginning students may need help setting up the graphs. I usually do these kind of exercises in pairs or groups and then have students share their answers and graphs with the class.
Student worksheet is available for free. This download includes the worksheet, answers, and tips for classroom teaching.
