Description

This engaging PowerPoint covers the steps to write an effective CER paragraph.

C = claim (introductory sentence)

E = evidence (support)

R = reasoning (concluding sentence)

I use this technique often in my science classroom but it is applicable across the content areas. The CER technique requires students to use evidence from a source (text, notes, video, article, etc.) to support a claim.

The CER paragraph is great as a stand-alone but several CER paragraphs can be stacked to create a cohesive essay.

Great for any science classroom but also applicable to other areas like history, social studies, ELA, English and so much more. This works especially well with both middle and high school students. It is perfect for introducing the CER paragraph and can be used with a variety of grade levels.

The PowerPoint is 21 slides long and includes:

  • Content with Images
  • Animations on each slide to control pace of content delivery
  • Two examples of great CER paragraphs

I also have a wonderful video on my YouTube channel to support students. This video goes through the entire PPT so it can but used for students who are absent, to support struggling students, to introduce or review the concept of writing a CER paragraph.

An editable version of the rubric can be found in this TpT product listing.
