This resource is part of a collection of mini-cases that I use as claim, evidence, and reasoning hooks at the beginning of my lessons. I call the series "Connecting Concepts" for students because the language is more student-friendly.
(1) At the beginning of class, students read the quick case and complete a draft response on my CER template (found here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Claim-Evidence-and-Reasoning-Template-EDITABLE-3910860)
(2) During the lesson students complete a graphic organizer related to the characteristics of living things (FREE here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Properties-of-Living-Things-Graphic-Organizer-3910809)
(3) As a CFU, students peer assessment or self-assess their draft.
(4) At the end of the lesson, students complete their final draft as an exit ticket.
