With this checklist, you can track what strategies your students are using to solve their CGI word problem. Those of us trained in the art of CGI know it's all about understanding and guiding that understanding. Use this information to help you make instructional decisions about how to support students in their journey to both efficiency and understanding. This checklist also makes excellent evidence to show parents and administrators the progress your students are making in the classroom.
After recording student information on this checklist, think about the following questions to help you make instructional decisions about where to take your next lesson:
1. How long have some of these students been using a specific strategy?
2. What questions could I ask to get them to think about their strategy in a different way?
3. How could my numbers affect what strategy the students use next time?
4. Is there another problem type I could use to support them?
