About CRITICAL THINKING CHALLENGES
This is a list of 20 interactive and cross-curricular critical thinking challenges. They pose questions to youth about science, math etc. and ask that they prove, test or respond to their theories about each one.
I have also provided a follow up challenge for each often giving one challenge 4 or 5 parts.
These activities are good for center work, partner and small group work, extra challenges for students who enjoy that. They make good indoor recess/lunch time activities and homework assignments (not necessarily to be done in one night.) They can also be used as mini projects or can all be placed in a container for intermittent use throughout the year by inquiring minds.
As a teacher these and other critical thinking activities I have designed, were invaluable as I had multi-age classrooms for 22 years and there was ALWAYS a few students, in that scenario particularly, who worked above grade and needed an individual challenge to be set for them.
Regardless of how these samples might be used, development of critical thinking ability is VITAL. I know full well that these would be good for any teacher to have on hand in his or her classroom.
I know we have all had students, even at the lowest grade level who could solve a critical thinking challenge with the best of the critical thinkers many grade levels above!
The reason there is no answer key provided here is because of the range of individual interpretation and variety of levels of thinking that may come from responses.
