The 125 slide Power Point presentation on Chance and Probability is broken down into six separate presentations for ease of use:

1. Language of Chance and the Probability Scale

2. Probability with dice

3. Probability with spinner colors

4. Probability with playing cards

6. Probability: mixed problems

♦ You may choose to present these presentations in any order except for presentation 1 and 6 that need to be presented first and last.

⚫ The 32 note-taking sheets are to be used in conjunction with the 125 Power Point presentation slides.

⚫ The layout of the note-style sheets are similar to Cornell-style notes. The left side features terminology and points to remember while the right side provides scaffolded notes on the lesson and practice examples.

⚫ Pick a presentation topic and play each slide one at a time giving enough time for students to record the missing information. They will be writing down information and solving practice examples from the Power Point presentation written in red text.

⚫ Students will be very engaged as they are not just watching you present the slides but in addition, they are actively documenting them.

This is to prove the law of large numbers that indicate that as the number of trials increase, the relative frequencies tend to get closer to the expected value (0.5) of tossing a coin.

6. Word Problems for both theoretical and experimental probability outcomes:

This section features ‘Work with Teacher’ and ‘Student Practice’ pages. The ‘Work

with Teacher’ page will enable you to demonstrate the solution for each problem.

I work on the PDF version of the file on the I-pad. This is projected on the interactive whiteboard (via a VGA cable) as I show annotations and working out of the problems.

The ‘Student Practice’ pages will enable your students to practice the problem-solving strategies modeled by you in the ‘Work with Teacher’ pages. Problems are the same format with only a change in the numbers.

Find probabilities of compound events using organized lists, tables, tree diagrams, and simulation.
Develop a probability model (which may not be uniform) by observing frequencies in data generated from a chance process. For example, find the approximate probability that a spinning penny will land heads up or that a tossed paper cup will land open-end down. Do the outcomes for the spinning penny appear to be equally likely based on the observed frequencies?
Develop a uniform probability model by assigning equal probability to all outcomes, and use the model to determine probabilities of events. For example, if a student is selected at random from a class, find the probability that Jane will be selected and the probability that a girl will be selected.
