The CHNOPS: Elements of Life powerpoint and graphic organizer foldable can be taught together as guided notes. It is easy for students to copy directly from the powerpoint while providing opportunities for them to take breaks and simply listen.
The CHNOPS: Elements of Life Fold-out Foldable introduces the elements of life; carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorous and sulfur. It also covers how these elements cycle through the ecosystem and would be a great addition to an environmental science unit or class.
The editable powerpoint and foldable begins with an overview of atoms, chemical bonding and the definitions of organic versus inorganic. The centers of the foldables have dedicated spaces for notes on the six elements of life: carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, and sulfur. Cycles for carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorous, and sulfur are included.
Each element has a short answer question for students to complete. They can be answered on a separate sheet of paper or in the students' interactive notebooks. The short answer prompt is to help promote writing in science.
I have also included a modified fill in the blank set of notes for students with handwriting difficulties or special needs.
A detailed teacher's key in red and black ink, which follows the same format as the student notes are included with assembly instructions.
