This is a complete writing lesson with templates for students to plan and build their own Choose Your Own Adventure stories.
Suggestion: For your read aloud time, pick a Choose Your Own Adventure story to read to students. Involve them in small group discussions to come to a consensus about the best choices. Point out foreshadowing, or where to make appropriate inferences in the text. Point out the unique features and structure of the Choose Your Own Adventure format.
Use the Planner for students to generate writing ideas, and the Story Map to plan out the stories.
Make multiple copies of the story writing template pages for students to use as many or as few as necessary to build their own stories with illustrations and choices. Print the covers on card stock to put together the books when finished.
Formative Feedback: As students write, provide feedback on writing conventions and structure.
