This a short reading about St. Nicholas and how he changed to become the Santa Claus we all know and love today. There are 3 vocabulary exercises based on the reading.
This lesson also includes the first 18 lines to the poem by Clement Clark Moore “Twas the Night before Christmas”. The teacher can read the entire poem with the class and then students can cut apart the strips, put them in order and paste them on a separate piece of paper. This works great as a Learning Center activity.
In the next worksheet students will make information questions using the WH Question Words (who, what, why, when, how many etc.) Students will first read the answer to the question. The underlined word in the sentence will indicated which WH question word the students will need to use to write the correct question.
The children love St. Nicholas.
Students need to write the question “Who do the children love?”
‘Twas the Night before Christmas SMART Board Sequencing Story includes:
1. Smart Board Lesson (11 slides)
Students will have fun with this interactive sequencing unit. They will arrange the sentences on the Smart Board to put them in the correct order. There are 20 movable strips from the first 18 lines of the poem “’Twas the Night before Christmas”. There are also 6 slides with pictures to help the students envision the story. They could then retell the story in their own words by only looking at the pictures on the slides or they could memorize the first several lines of the poem.
2. Follow Up worksheet with Teacher Notes included.
Students will cut apart the strips and put them in order. Then, they will paste them on a separate piece of paper. (These are the exact same sentences that are on the Smart Board Lesson.)
