Happy holidays! Need a Christmas game/cooperative activity to use with your
middle school/high school students right before the holidays? Well, this power point game will provide a fun time, but a controllable, fun time.
I have 25 different Christmas carols that I’ve scrambled. Not only that, I’ve added an extra 2 words not in the title of each carol. You decide how you’d like the students to play the game. Here are a few ideas:
1. You can have groups of 4 or so in cooperative groups to whisper to each other the unscrambled title of the carol, write it down, and swap and check at the end.
2. You can play the game of girls vs. guys where one person for each team is the speaker and the first to solve the title of the carol raises his/her hand and someone keeps score.
3. Each student writes his answers on his own paper and swap and check when finished. Winner is the one with the most correct answers.
4. If you have time, you can write the words in the title of the carol with the 2 extra words included on cards (one word per card). You hand the group the cards, have the group of students try to unscramble the title by each holding one or more of the cards(words) and getting themselves in order to have the title of the Christmas carol. Timed for 10 seconds. Keep score if they do it in time.
Any way you play the game, all will have fun. Merry Christmas!
(There is an answer key included on a slide near the end. You can print this out to use when going over the answers. You can give a hint by eliminating one of the “wrong” words.)
