Cinquains are a delightful closed-form of poetry because they have specific patterns. This 15 slide ANIMATED power point lesson explains 3 patterns for creating cinquains and introduces the term of "poetic license". Students identify the patterns from examples and learn the steps for writing a cinquain, as the class creates one of each pattern together. This all leads to students creating their own. To keep students focused and to provide some notes on cinquains, I have also included a NOTE-TAKING WORKSHEET that coincides with the slides of the presentation. Students "fill in the blanks" on their worksheet from BOLD words on the slides. Then they have the guidelines handy to create their own poetry. We keep these "notes" in our V.I.P. (Very Important Papers) Folder.
