Cardiovascular System Structures
Consists of :
The heart
Blood vessels
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
Blood
Parts of the Cardiovascular System
The Cardiovascular System
(CARDIO – Heart) (VASCULAR – Blood vessels)

MAIN ORGANS OF THE CIRCUCARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM:
I. Heart: 4-chambered muscle. Pumps the blood throughout the body and back
II. Blood vessels: transport oxygen and nutrients to cells and carbon dioxide and wastes away
Arteries carry blood Away from heart to tissues. Oxygen-rich blood. (red)
Veins carry blood from tissues back to heart. Oxygen-poor blood. (blue)
Capillaries are the tiny vessels

MAIN ORGANS OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM:
Blood is a liquid made up of … :
White cells: help you fight disease
Red blood cells: carry oxygen and carbon dioxide
Hemoglobin: iron-containing protein
Platelets: help your blood clot when you
have an injury
Plasma: yellow liquid that carries the things above plus food, chemicals, and wastes.
What does the Cardiovascular System do?

How does it do it?

Heart/Great Vessels--1 Route
Smaller arteries and veins -many routes (collateral circulation)
Capillaries—network where diffusion occurs

Your heart and circulatory system make up your cardiovascular system. Your heart works as a pump that pushes blood to the organs, tissues, and cells of your body In this diagram, the vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood are colored red, and the vessels that carry oxygen-poor blood are colored blue
Cardiovascular System pathways
Pulmonary Circulation
Carries blood to lungs and back to the heart

Systemic Circulation
Carries blood to body and back to the heart

What is carried by the circulatory system?
The Cardiovascular system

Heart
The heart is the organ of the circulatory system that pumps blood.
Structure of Heart
Four chambers
Two upper (Atria)
Right Atria
Left Atria
Two lower (Ventricles)
Right Ventricle
Left Ventricle

How does the heart pump blood?
Cardiac system
The Heart’s Blood Flo
