ISTEP 2015 will have a different format from previous years. While we don't know exactly what it will look like, we do know that students will be required to "cite the text" as they answer questions about what they have read.
Students will also be required to read and cite the text as they respond to a writing prompt. This is a NEW SKILL, and like anything else, it will be important to teach it as a short response prior to teaching students to use text to support their writing in an essay.
Here are 11 tips for teaching students to cite text--especially on the ISTEP constructed response, as well as helpful phrases to use as they write. There are two poster sets: one in color and the other in black and white. The tips are also listed on one sheet for your binder.
This is just what you need--all in one source. Review the skills, model the correct response, and practice often!
