The lessons within this unit are designed to get students thinking more deeply about the Civil Rights Era. Each of the nonfiction pieces is based on true events that occurred during the Civil Rights movement.
These lessons will ask students to:

~use text evidence to support thinking
~respond to open ended questions
~learn more about the Civil Rights Era
~compare and contrast perspectives
~make judgments about the fairness of laws
~understand perspectives and who they represent
In addition to that, there is also a couple pages of crucial Civil Rights vocabulary that will allow students to understand the concepts discussed more accurately.
