Are you using the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) curriculum? Have you found that while the listen & learns (read alouds) are rich and engaging, they often lack an accountability piece for students? Look no further! I've created these listening booklets to correspond with the Listen & Learn read alouds. For each domain, I have created mostly "right there" questions that students fill in as we go, while occasionally students will have to answer an inferential or evaluative question. I have found that the booklet gives them a substantial amount of "evidence" they can use when responding in their science or social studies journals, and they are allowed to use their note catchers for the end of domain assessment, which provides further incentive to closely listen to each read aloud!
Looking for other ways to teach the Listen & Learn? My students listen to the story on EdPuzzle completing their booklets with a partner. This allows them to work at their own pace, re-listen to parts they didn't quite understand, and collaborate to complete their booklets.
This listening booklet corresponds to the Third Grade Domain #8 - Native American Regions and Cultures. It includes an additional page for students to expand on the Core Knowledge Sayings and Phrases included in this domain. This domain includes "Cold Shoulder".
The Unit Goal corresponds with the "Big Idea" outlined by the Core Knowledge sequence.
