This package of 32 board games includes:
--- consolidation of vowel digraphs from Phase 2
--- our says 'or' (pour)
--- er endings
--- Magic e CVCV and CCVCV
--- vowel y (long i and long e sounds)
--- hard and soft c and g
--- ow - long o and diphthong ow
--- two syllable words
It also includes a BLANK BOARD GAME for you to use any way you choose. I use the blank games for individual and group word lists. I have added extension games for those students who learn quickly, so you can use them in a Literacy Centre and cater for a wide range of ability in your class.
Some games require students to discriminate between sound choices (blown and crown, for instance). This develops both their visual and auditory ability simultaneously. Successful decoding of new words requires beginning readers to have this flexibility.
Phase 3 builds on Phase 1 and 2 skills and provides the fun for students to want to play and consolidate their phonemic awareness at these levels. I believe Phases 1 to 3 are the basis for success as a reader. Once students have these skills they are ready for the more complex letter combinations and exceptions to rules.
All words are in a DYSLEXIA FRIENDLY FONT. All you need to get started is a die and a counter for each player. I find 2 to 4 players is ideal. It is a quick game and is ideal to begin or end an intervention session as well.
