This unit has a variety of tools which will enable students to identify coins, identify the value of coins, find the value of mixed currency, as well as ways to combine coins to make a given value. Students will love exploring these tools and will demonstrate their mastery of a variety of concepts.
Included in the his unit is the following:
-Classroom posters for the dollar, quarter, dime, nickel, and penny with the front and back of the coin, the name of the coin, as well as the value of the coin
-Large coins that can be cut out and used with students that are proportionate to their correct size
-Touch money posters for the quarter, dime, nickel, and penny with dots to count by five. The poster has the name of the coin, a picture of the coin, the touch point, and then the number you would count by
-Touch money strips with the quarter, dime, nickel, and penny. There are two versions (one with the numbers next to the dots and one without
-Touch money coin handout that matches the posters
-Large coins (quarter, dime, nickel, and penny) that have the touch points on them
-Large coins with the front and the back that can be folded on the dotted line so students can identify coins by their attribytes
-Coins that can be cut out and used if you do not have plastic money to use
-Ways to Make a Dollar, Ways to Make a Half Dollar, Ways to make a Quarter, and Ways to Make a Dime Worksheets
-Small flashcards with mixed currency represented from 1 cent all the way up to 100 cents
-Coin fraction bars which can by cut out and laid on top of a hundred chart to find the value
-Race to a Dollar Spinner where students spin the spinner and then color in the value on a hundred chart. Students take turns until one of them get to a dollar
