COLOR THE STATES
These fun activities will help your students become more familiar with the U.S. state's names, capitals, shapes and locations.
I created this packet a number of years ago because many of my students couldn't even recognize the shape of our state, let alone the capital city! It's amazing how diligently they work on the different activities. They color the states according to the directions on the sheets that are included in this packet. For example, all states that begin with the letter N, might be colored with purple polka dots. One map is for coloring the states, another is for coloring the states according to their capitals. Display these colorful maps around your classroom.
Included in this packet:
1 blank U. S. map
1 U.S map with states/capitals
1 map of New England with states capitals
2 maps (answer sheets)
Student instruction sheets for coloring the maps
1 sheet – state abbreviations
1 sheet – list of states
1 sheet – list of capitals
1 sheet states and capitals
Abbreviation flash cards
Capitals flashcards with shapes on them
State and capitals assessment answers included
Detailed lessons and “how to” instructions
