This close read is meant to really get the students involved in this masterfully written speech. They will begin with vocabulary and annotating the text and then they will be guided through a variety of text dependent questions to do a deep analysis. They will identify parallel word choices, metaphors, anaphora, and emotional appeal.
This close read is longer than many and may take up to 3 or 4 class periods if the students are presented with one question / task at a time. Since the questions are all on a separate page (with possible answers), they can easily be transferred to show by LCD or written on the board.
This is one of my favorites. I hope you like it.
