This set of 18 easy-to-read words for new readers is a no-prep activity perfect for literacy centers, independent or guided activities. Help build blending and phonics knowledge and develop reading skills. I developed this set for a child who just could not get that larger words are made up of smaller words and used it with great success the first time.
There are 18 pretty easy, straightforward words, some have first sounds such as 'ai' and 'ow', but they are usually learning these at this time anyway. One set of cards is marked with a number for children who need extra support, they can match up the numbers, the second set has just the words.
I laminate and use on a clipboard and there is a worksheet for writing the words out when they have made them. You could use pegs to hold the words together. Really simple but effective activity. Perfect for Special Ed, and or ESL or EFL. You could also use the worksheet to draw the items.
List of words:
backpack, snowman, goldfish, highway, moonlight, handcuff, bathtub, starfish, popcorn, bedtime, football, hot dog, raindrop, ladybug, afternoon, subway, pickup and laptop.
