(NOTE: In my multi-age math classroom, I have students working at a variety of levels. As often as possible, I like to make their activities match so that everyone feels like they're working on the same thing.
Visit the link at the bottom of this page to see an alternate version of COOKIE FORCE: Erma's Snickerdoodles
that covers a different standard.)
As a member of the Cookie Force, Erma and her friends Edith, Ethel, and Eglantine must protect their town's baked goods from Dr. Bunion and his evil footmen. When Dr. Bunion steals Erma's measuring cups just an hour before the Garden Club is due to arrive and sample her world-famous snickerdoodle cookies, Erma must use the one measuring cup she has left (1/8 cup) to prepare the recipe.
COOKIE FORCE: Erma's Snickerdoodles is a silly activity designed to strengthen students' equivalent fractions skills. The worksheet includes 15 measuring cups (1/8 cup) and quantities for all ingredients (in halves, fourths, or eighths). Students must convert all measurements in the original recipe into eighths, then paste the correct number of cups by each ingredient. It's a CCSS-aligned print-and-go activity with zero prep work required.
A corresponding Cookie Force mini-story is also included in case you feel like slipping a little ELA into your math lesson.
