(NOTE: In my multi-age math classroom, I have students working at a variety of levels. As often as possible, I like to make their activities match so that everyone feels like they're working on the same thing.
Visit the links at the bottom of this page to see alternate versions of COOKIE FORCE: Ethel's Revenge
that cover other standards.)
Peace and quiet was never part of Ethel's retirement plans. As a member of the Cookie Force, she and her friends Edith, Erma, and Eglantine must protect their town's baked goods from Dr. Bunion and his evil footmen. When Dr. Bunion ruins the Kid Scouts' cookie sale by stomping their wares to crumbs, Ethel jumps in her rocker rocket and blasts off to save the scouts' day. Not all heroes wear capes; some wear sensible nighties.
If your students are itching for math activities of a different flavor, let Ethel save YOUR day. COOKIE FORCE: Ethel's Revenge
is designed to strengthen students' ability to solve equations involving mixed operations. The worksheet includes 12 cookie boxes (numerical expressions) that students "fill" with the correct amount of cookies (pre-printed with solutions). It's a CCSS-aligned print-and-go activity with zero prep work required.
A corresponding Cookie Force mini-story is also included in case you feel like slipping a little ELA into your math lesson.
