This is a word document that allows students to fill in the writing strategies to help them become better writers. There were several posters and PowerPoints out there however; I made a word-document that allows students to have that hands-on interactive experience. After they completed their document, I laminated them and allowed them to keep in in their desk all school year. Whenever they forget a writing rule, they pull out their “COPS” sheet and follow it.
This strategy was not developed by me, it was developed by the University of Kansas Institute for Research in Learning Disabilities and the steps for implementation below have been adapted from Strategy Instruction for student with Learning Disabilities (Reid & Lienemann, 2006), I just created a fill-in document for the classroom.
