Hello!! Last year my school purchased CPM Geometry and Algebra 1. This year we purchased Algebra 2 and won a grant for Precalculus. YIPPEEE!! This IS phenomenal curriculum! As a former homeschooling parent, THIS is the first curriculum I've found that meets the standard I had set back then for my high schooler.
All this said, I came upon a problem I did not have the previous 5 years when I wrote my own curriculum....ANSWERS ON LINE!! My students were killing the homework but when it came to assessments, they bombed. I quickly realized they were cheating but I couldn't figure out how as this was new curriculum. Long story short, there are websites out there that DO all the Review & Preview sets with the WORK shown (they do NOT have the unit tests though)!! I was FRUSTRATED!! Then, somebody told be about quizzing the homework daily. Once I wrapped my head around this, I came up with the Homework Quick Check. The sites with the work shown had no clue what question I would choose to quiz nor how I would change it to be sure the student did not memorize.
Here's how it works. Each day I put the homework up for them to check, I address questions, then I had out the Quick Check. There are four different forms with one question from the homework. The same basic problem, changed a little. Form A is ALWAYS verbatim off the homework for my students that have a serious struggle with math. Form D is always the most difficult if that is possible. Form B and C are somewhere in between. Each table group of four, with have all four forms. This cuts down on cheating off the neighbor. The classes know they have no more than 5 minutes to complete this task. All told, this all takes the first 15 minutes of class at most. That includes attendance and greeting and chatting with each table group.
This has really helped my students to realize that practicing a skill is important.
