CRITICAL THINKING: Follow the Clues to the Mystery Number
Engage your little detectives in this fun, critical thinking exercise. Follow the Clues to the Mystery Number
is a problem solving activity wherein students are given 4 clues to use in conjunction with 100s charts.
Begin by having the students highlight 100s charts to show:
• top/bottom half of the chart
• left/right half of the chart
• even/odd numbers
• skip counting/multiples of 3 - 12
Then present the clues in sequential order to allow your number detectives to find the solution to the mystery. Your sleuths will enjoy doing this in a center, as an anchor activity, and/or for fast finishers. This unit is CCSS aligned.
