Socratic Seminar and High School Hots both on Plato's REPUBLIC

    (20% discount)

I teach the Republic in several of my courses. According to THE WASHINGTON POST, the Republic is the most frequently assigned book at Ivy League colleges - a link for this article is in the preview.

These two units complement each other. They both cover the same section of Plato’s Republic (Book I: 327a-332a). The Socratic Seminar has a GOOGLE SLIDES component and asks students to analyze the text by themselves and share their findings with the class. I personally find the Seminar provides a positive environment for even the most uncertain and timid students. After the seminar, I turn to the material covered in The High School Hots unit. This unit delves into the text in a more systematic and thorough way. There is a test, essay questions, teacher notes, and more. I offer these units separately as some students may find the HOTS unit too challenging and/or difficult depending on the grade level. The HOTS unit, however, does have in-depth teacher notes that may prove helpful for those unfamiliar with the Republic but want to introduce their students to this seminal work.
