In Chapter 7 of The Great Gatsby, we learn that Myrtle Wilson is struck and killed by a speeding car. This in-class activity asks students to work in groups and assume different roles to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mrs. Wilson's death and to predict what will happen next in the novel. I did this activity with my 11th graders, and they loved it. Students get to select their roles, and after they gather evidence, they present their findings to the class. This engaging activity prompts students to read closely and make inferences about the events and descriptions in the novel.
