What is “Cubes”?
“Cubes” is a great way to see which students understand the concept you are teaching. It takes writing answers on a whiteboard to the next step! Students will absolutely love flipping and turning their cubes to show you the correct answer!
How to set up your “Cubes”:
Print off a “Cubes” foldable page (in either color or black and white – to save on color ink, have your students color in the shapes based on the key provided!). It’s best to print these on card stock paper for durability (and it makes it easier to store them to use later for a different “Cubes” concept.
After you print out the foldable page and/or have your students color the shapes in, cut out the shape along the outside edge (should make a large “T”. Then fold on each of the lines to make a 3-dimensional cube. Each flap should fit into the slots of the cube. Tape or glue the flaps so the cube stays together.
How to use your “Cubes”:
After each student has a cube made, project each question on your screen. Each question is a separate page of this PDF file. Read the question to the students and have them turn and flip their cubes to show you the correct shape that corresponds to the answer. They can place it on their desk or hold it in the air.
How will “Cubes” help YOU!?
This is a great informative assessment tool to quickly look around the room and see which students are understanding the concept. You get a quick understanding of whether you need to reteach the concept – to the whole class or just individual students. A record sheet has been included as well so you can record which students got the question correct.
