This activity gives students practice with solving word problems while teaching the CUBES math strategy steps and common math keywords with their operations. Students can use the song lyrics in the worksheets that explain the strategy along with math keyword operations for extra support while completing the questions.

This activity includes:

- the CUBES math strategy rap song lyrics for student reference

• No need to constantly explain the CUBES steps to your students. They can reread them in the song lyrics!

- answer keys to all questions

- 6 multiple-choice review questions for learning the steps to CUBES

- 4 multiple-choice, identify the math key words questions

- 8 word problem questions.

How to use this activity:

- Introduce the CUBES math strategy by having students listen to the rap song while following along with the lyrics.

- Have students complete the "Let's Review CUBES" section. Model the steps in CUBES for students using question #1 in the "Solve the Word Problems" section. Refer to the song lyrics if necessary.

- Have students complete the "Math Keywords" section. Model the steps for defining keywords for students using question #1 in the "Math Keywords" section. Refer to the song lyrics if necessary.

- Solve question #1 in the "Solve the Word Problems" section with students.

- Have students solve the remaining 7 questions independently. Refer students to the song lyrics as necessary and review as a class when done.

- The answer keys for the questions are on the remaining pages.
