CUBS is a versatile strategy that students can use to solve any mathematical CCSS word problem. The language of such problems can be complex; unpacking before solving ensures that students choose the correct operation and set up equation(s) correctly. My school uses this strategy across all grade levels and has seen great success as students progress.
This poster set contains a large (8 1/2" x 11") poster and small (4 per page) mini-posters for students to keep in a folder or tape on their desk. Both colored and black-and-white versions are included. Down the side it reads "CUBS" with a visual of a bear cub. Each step has a visual representation. It also supports executive functioning when students plan to solve a math problem. Two versions: sample equation for primary learners and just the steps for intermediate learners.
