CUPS posters and CUPS Student Job Description Cards for primary and intermediate grades. CUPS (C-Capitals, U-Understanding or U-Usage and Grammar, P-Punctuation, S-Spelling) is a great tool to help guide young writers through the editing process. The poster explain each part of CUPS in a bright and easy to understand way. Use these posters to guide your lesson on editing writing. Display them in your writing area for students to refer back to during their editing process.
Use these CUPS job descriptions when students work in a group to edit each other's writing. Each student in the group has a specific job (whatever job description card you give them). These cards tell them what their job is and what they are in charge of checking in their peer's work. When students are asked to check over a peer's writing, they often miss things because they are looking for too many different things. This is a great way to help students practice looking for specific things to correct in their writing and other's writing. With these job description cards, one student in the group will be looking over the other group members writing for correct capitalization. One student will be just checking for understanding. One student just checks for correct punctuation, and the last student is focusing on correct spelling. Each student has a specific job so they know exactly what they're looking in their peers' writing.
This poster and job description set will help your students become more independent writers and editors. Your students will also have more opportunities for cooperative learning!
This set now includes mini student job cards!
