Product Description
This is an activity for students to learn, improve and/or practice early reading skills. The video includes phonemic awareness and phonics sounds. Students receive guided practice in reading CVC words.

The activity sheets: the worksheet and key are the first two thumbnails. You can save the pictures as jpegs and download them to run copies. You can also download the pdf documents at www.ewcata.com under YouTube videos. In the video, students are shown pictures, listen to the letter sounds and have to color in the correct corresponding CVC word identified in the video. Students are prompted to say the sounds along with the video. Teachers should encourage students to say the sounds out loud with the video and when the video asks for responses.

For differentiation, you can use Bug Fun 1, 2, or 3 with different students. The higher level number indicates how many words are on the sheet with the same beginning sounds such as in this video, the majority of the words all start with a different letter so it is easier to identify the word. In Bug Fun 2, there are two words that start with the same beginning sound and three - three words etc. There is also an assessment video to show after students progress through the videos that does not give the students the answers during video instruction.

Teacher's note: We have found that this video can be used as an introductory tool as well as a tool for reinforcement of CVC practice in the classroom. It is good practice to review the words with students either one to one, small group or even whole group after the activity has been completed.

The activity can be done whole group, small group or as a center. For whole group, the teacher would simply display the video using your LCD projector and the students would complete the worksheet at their desks while the video plays. Teachers may pause the video at any time to add their own direct instruction if they chose. The video is self correcting so it does show the answers as it goes.

For Center activity:

STEP 1. Download the video onto the computers or you could use one laptop or tablet and connect headsets using a listening center device for headphones.
STEP 2. Download the worksheet and key
STEP 3. Copy the worksheets for the students.
STEP 4 Set up the computers with headsets on all stations.
STEP 5 Cue up the video
STEP 6 Have students bring worksheet, pencil and crayons.
STEP 7 Start video and students will complete video
