Included in CVC Bundle #3:
What Nonsense CVC Board Game: Players take turns rolling the die and moving their counters the corresponding number of spaces. When landing on a space, players must identify the word and then decide if it is a real or nonsense word. If players land on nonsense words they must move back one space. The first player to reach the finish area is the game winner. Good luck!
CVC Word Building Cookie Tray Sheets: Students place the word building sheet on a cookie tray or magnetic backing. Identify the picture in the boxes and build the words associated by placing magnetic letters in the blank boxes. Record your answer by writing it on the matching recording sheet. Teacher tip: Instead of printing multiple recording sheets, laminate a copy of each and have students use dry-erase whiteboard markers to record their answers. Includes – 18 word building cards, 18 black and white recording sheet printables and instructions for use.
Bubble Gum CVC Cards: Players select a game card and identify the picture inside the gumball machine. Stretch out the word that corresponds to the picture. Make the word by placing the correct bubble gum letter balls onto the game card. Players can check if they were correct by finding the matching picture on the answer sheet. Includes – 30 game cards, 2 answer cards, bubble gum letter balls and instructions for use.
Magnify-cent CVC Words Set 1: Select a game card and collect a black and white recording sheet. Write the CVC game card number in the top box to show what card you have collected. Use a magnifying glass to ‘spy’/search for CVC words on the game card. On finding a word, record it on your work sheet by writing it in one of the twelve magnifying glasses. When all twelve CVC words have been found read your words to a partner or teacher. Teachers: Your class will love this! It’s so much fun! Students can complete this activity independently. The recording sheet allows you to ask students to read the words as you monitor their progress. This is a perfect activity for literacy centers! Set of 6 cards, recording sheet and instructions.
Stretch it Out CVC Tap Cards: This is a great activity for students who are beginning to learn how to ‘stretch out’ words. A card is selected and a purple cover up card is placed over the picture. Students then stretch out the CVC word by tapping each coloured circle as they say the sound associated with the letter shown. Students then attempt to identify the word. The picture is uncovered and the student can if they were correct. Includes – 45 tap cards and instructions for use.
CVC Peek-a-boo Books: These little cards are perfect for students who are beginning to stretch out words and put them back together. The cards are cut and pegs attached (instructions and diagram included). Players unclip the pegs on at a time and look under the flap. As they do so, players say the sound that corresponds to the letter shown underneath the flap. After the player has read all three letters they attempt to decode the word. By uncovering the fourth flap students are able to see if they were correct by looking at the matching picture. In my classroom I have also used these cards as a literacy center where students play this back to front. Instead of revealing flaps 1, 2 and 3 first, my students uncover the picture flap. Students then attempt to write the word on their sheet and when finish open the remaining flaps to see if they were correct! A very open ended resource that works well in a whole class or small group learning experience. Includes – 44 peek – a – boo cards, assembly diagram and instructions for use.
