In a Kindergarten classroom I recently subbed in, students used similar blending boxes to practice decoding their sight words during Daily 5. Since my Kindergarten Club kiddos need a lot of reinforcement when it comes to CVC patterns, we do blending drills often.
I plan on using this exercise as one of my centers for tomorrow, but before I do, wanted to share it with you! I included a page of blank boxes where you can write your own CVC/High Frequency words. Orton-Gillingham is always good about incorporating both kinesthetic and visual factors when it comes to these drills.
All you need is a bag of transparent bingo chips and these free printables!
1. Place 3 transparent chips over 3 letters.
2. Sound out as you drag each chip down into the empty box.
3. Blends sounds to read CVC word.
4. Repeat steps for other words.
Student names each letter to spell the word and writes the letter in the blank boxes.
