Pirates Pete and Pat have landed on Treasure Island. One finds a trash heap. The other locates the treasure. Use this fun differentiated literacy center to give your kindies lots of sounding out experience with CVC and CCVC words.
Children need to place all word cards up side down on the gameboard. They take turns picking up a card and deciphering it. They then decide whether it is trash (a nonsense word) or treasure.(a recognisable word) If it is a recognisable word they can pick up a gold coin from the treasure chest. If it is a nonsense word they pick up one piece of trash from the sandpit. All children record the word on the appropriate column of their recording sheet.
At the end they count up their coins and trash. The one with the most coins gets to collect up everybody’s coins to return them to the treasure chest. The one with the most trash collects all the trash up and places it back in the sandpit.
