This is a great resource to use any time during the year for students needing practice reading and sorting CVC and CVCe vowel "e" words, while deciphering if the words are real or nonsense. There are 54 CVC and CVCe word cards and 3 sorting mats for students to place real versus nonsense word cards. In addition, a recording sheet for students to write down their words under the columns "Real Words" and "Nonsense Words" is included.
SPECIAL NOTE: Many nonsense words with the silent e sound like real words. For students struggling with spelling, they may not be able to tell the difference when reading the words. I’ve added some bonus words students should be taught prior to the activity, so they know the difference between certain nonsense words.
Examples: wede=weed, rede=read/reed, mete=meet/meat, fede=feed, bete=beat/beet
