CVC Color by Nonsense Words Worksheets (Set 1) - Heidi Songs

Real word or not real, nonsense word? In this coloring worksheet, the children must color the objects or sections in each picture a specific color, depending on whether it is a real word or not.

These Color by Nonsense Word Worksheets were created to give children a fun way to practice phonics skills and comprehension when reading those all important three letter words with a CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) spelling pattern.

Some of the pictures to color are:

cat, raccoon, pumpkin patch, rats, sea lions, car, ducks, dinosaur, vehicles, turtle, bee hive, bird, ox, robot, elephant, balloons, frogs, bunny, flowers, fox, top hat, airplane, bee, mittens, chickens, basket of eggs, ladybugs, gorilla, watermelon, kangaroo, unicorn, easter eggs, and more!

To get kids started using these worksheets, I recommend that you do these

worksheets TOGETHER as a group. I did it in small groups by first showing the

children the letters on large flash cards and helping them sound out the words.

Together, we decided if the word had any meaning or not. Then we all colored

them together. When almost all of the sections were colored, I released the

group to do the rest of the worksheet on their own.
