A Note from Julie
This unit was used in my classroom as center work while guided reading was being completed or extra practice sent home for my kindergartners for homework (usually Tuesday or Thursdays sheet was sent home) . This packet could also be used for first graders just beginning the year or those first grade readers who are struggling with CVC words .
Daily Word Family Work
Monday : Build a Word-students identify the beginning sound of the CVC word and circle the correct letter. Next they write the letter in the space to build the word.
Tuesday: Students color and find the words with the CVC pattern in them based on the CVC identified at the top of the sheet.
Wednesday: Students will cut and glue the words to the appropriate picture.
Thursday: Students will highlight , circle, or color the words with the CVC pattern they are working on. Your choice on how it is done.
Friday: Guided reader- students create CVC booklet and read with a buddy and underline the CVC words in the book. Readers contain high frequency words. Students record words on Friday’s sheet of the words they found in their reader. Teacher can make 4 ahead of time and students can share reader to save paper and time.
