Super fun center activity for students to practice reading CVC words! Your students will love fishing for their CVC words and competing against their classmates to get the most fish… but watch out for sharks!! This engaging game will help your students learn 18 CVC word families. This set has 138 CVC words, so your students will get tons of practice!!
138 fish with the following sound endings: -at, -am, -an, -ag, -ad, -ap, -og, -ob, -ot, -it, -ig, -in, -ip, -it, -ug, -ub, -et, and –en
4 blank fish
6 shark pictures
Black & White version of everything listed above
Print pages 3-24 (color) OR pages 26-47 (B&W).
Use pages 25 and 48 to make your own CVC fish.
Cut out and laminate each fish.
To use with a magnet fishing rod:
Paperclip each fish. Make a fishing rod for each students by attaching a magnet to string and then attaching that string to a pencil.
Place all of the fish on the floor face down. Have students use their magnet fishing rod to “fish.”
Drawing for Fish:
Place all in a bag or non see-through bucket. Have students draw a fish without looking.
When the student grabs a fish, have them read the word. If they read the word correctly, they get to keep the fish. If they find a shark all of their fish go back “into the sea.”
Pro Tip: When your students have already shown that they can read the CVC words, take it one step further and have them match the words that rhyme!
