PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This resource contains 5 interactive games. Each game is designed to help develop and consolidate the reading, writing and selling of CVC words in a fun and interactive way. Each games uses all middle vowel sounds - a, e, i, o, u.

Instructions are included for each game but please note that these are only suggested ways to play and I find that with each game, they can be adapted to suit the needs of the learner and played in a variety of ways.

Game One: Matching Pairs
How to play:
Place cards face down on playing area. In turn each player chooses two cards and turns them face up. If they match (cvc word and picture) then that player wins the pair and plays again. If they do not match, they are turned face down again and play passes to the player on the left. The game ends when the last pair has been picked up. The winner is the person with the most pairs.

Game Two: Jigsaw
How to play:
The object of this game is to match up each CVC word with its correct picture. This game can be played individually, pairs or in small groups.
Another way to play this game is to place all pieces in a feely bag, select one piece, children use their workbooks or individual whiteboards to draw the missing half.

Game Three: Bingo
How to play:
Give each player a picture bingo board and place all CVC word cards face down in a pile or scattered around the table. Take turns to pick a card and read the CVC word. The person with the corresponding picture uses the card to cover their picture. The first player to cover all pictures on their bingo card calls “bingo” and is declared the winner.

Game Four: CVC Middle Sound Fans
How to play:
Prepare the fans by printing on cardstock, cut out each section and laminate. Use a key ring holder to keep fans together.
Give each player a fan. Hold up missing vowel card, children use their fans to select the correct missing vowel.

Game Five: Cookie Jar
How to play:
This game is best used in small groups. Chose whether to use the word cookies or the picture cookies. Place a small amount of cookies on the cookie jar allow children to read the words/look at the pictures. Ask them to look away and remove one cookie from the jar – children write down (or tell) the cvc word that they think has been moved.
